Trigger Point Massage
Continuous and repetitive movement can irritate your muscle tissue and over time lead to the development of trigger points. A trigger point is a tense spot in your muscle tissue that causes pain in a connected part of the body. Some trigger points are what people call “knots” in their muscle and are a common cause of pain.
When trigger points are activated, they cause pain, tension, and restricted movement. Applying pressure to trigger points can create a dull aching feeling to different areas of the body, also known as referred pain. For example, if you have a trigger point in your back, it can cause pain in the connective tissue, causing pain in your neck and triggering a dull headache.
With deep, focused pressure, a trigger point massage directly stretches the trigger point’s knotted muscles and, in effect, providing pain relief to other parts of the body. A trigger point massage is specifically designed alleviate pain from the source. Even having just one massage can make you feel significantly better.
If you have trouble identifying whether a trigger point has been activated, give us a call today. We can answer any questions you might have.
